Masu - Masu

Japanese: 升∥枡 - ます
Masu - Masu
A volumetric measure is a device used to measure the volume of liquids, granules, or powders. A volumetric measure is a device that is filled to the brim or to the graduations or indicators on the inside near the brim, in other words, a measuring cup is used to measure a unit amount. In the West, it is generally made of metal and is cylindrical, but in the East, wooden square or trapezoidal shapes were common until the early modern period, and there were also inverted trapezoidal ones, but in Japan, they were all square. In Chinese, it is classified as a measuring device, and in English, it is classified as a measure. Masu is a Japanese word, and there are various theories about its origin. The Seisaku Zusetsu suggests that it comes from the word masu (masu), which doubles in size from masu, tou, and koku, and that it is masu, and the Daigenkai also suggests that it means that it increases by stacking the combined masses and stacking the masses, but the Iwanami Dictionary of Ancient Japanese says that it has the same origin as the Korean word mal (masu).
