Lost Tales - San'usual Stories

Japanese: 散佚物語 - さんいつものがたり

These are fictional stories set mainly in the society of the imperial aristocracy, and although their names have been passed down to the present day, the texts have been lost. However, those created during the Muromachi period have subjects and themes from the society of the imperial aristocracy, but some of them should be classified as "monogatari tales," such as "Otogi zoshi," and it is difficult to distinguish between them, so they are generally considered to date to around the end of the Kamakura period. There are currently about 240 types known. The largest source on them is the "Fuyō Wakashu," compiled in 1271 (Bun'ei 8), which contains poems from about 200 stories that existed at the time, but nearly 180 of these stories have been lost.

王朝貴族社会をおもに舞台とした仮作物語で，現在その名は伝えられながら本文を失っているもの。ただし室町期に成立のものは，題材･趣向は王朝貴族社会に取っているものの，〈御伽（おとぎ）草子〉などの，いわゆる〈物語草子〉の範囲に入るべきものもあり，区別しがたいので，通例では鎌倉末期ぐらいまでのものについて考えられている。現在知られているものは約240種に及ぶ。それらについての最大の資料は1271年(文永8)に成った《風葉和歌集》で，当時存在した約200種の物語から歌を取っているが，その中の180種近くの物語が散佚している。
