Gotakakurain - Gotakakurain

Japanese: 後高倉院 - ごたかくらいん
Gotakakurain - Gotakakurain
1179-1223 An honorific title for Emperor during the Kamakura period.
Born on February 28, 1276. The second son of Emperor Takakura. His mother was Fujiwara Shokushi (Shichijo-in). He was the half-brother of Emperor Antoku and the full brother of Emperor Gotoba (later the retired emperor). He was raised by the Taira clan, and after the downfall of the Taira clan he became a prince and entered the priesthood. After the Jōkyū War, the third prince, Yutahito, succeeded to the throne and became Emperor Go-Horikawa, so he was given the rare title of Retired Emperor without taking the throne, and ruled as a cloistered emperor. He died on May 14, 1276. He was 45 years old. His given name was Morisada. His posthumous Buddhist name was Gyōsuke. His other names included Jimyōin Hoōō and Hirose-in.
