A semi-cold-tolerant annual plant of the Solanaceae family (APG classification: Solanaceae). Its Japanese name is Sarumenba or Asagao Tobacco. Native to Chile and Peru. It grows 0.3-1m tall, is upright, somewhat branched, and covered with sticky hairs. The leaves are oblong. In May and June, it produces funnel-shaped flowers that are 5-6cm long and 6cm wide. The flowers are yellow, red, purple, reddish brown, etc., with a velvety sheen and net-like stripes that are blue, yellow, or red. It is sown in autumn, raised in frames or in a low-temperature room, and then planted in a flower bed or pot. The flowers are sensitive to rain.
