Died November 11, 1563. Italian painter from Rome. His real name was Francesco de' Rossi. Along with Giorgio Vasari, he is one of the most representative painters of Mannerism. The name Salviati comes from Cardinal Giovanni Salviati, who was the first patron of the style in Rome. After studying under Andrea del Sarto, he was mainly active in Florence and Rome. He produced historical paintings, allegorical paintings, and portraits. His works include Charity (Uffizi Gallery), the fresco series in the Sala d'Udienza in Palazzo Vecchio, Florence (1544-48), and the fresco series in Palazzo Farnese, Rome (1555).
