Year of death: November 27, 4th year of Koan (January 8, 1282) Year of birth: Ninji 3 (1242) A shogunate liaison officer in the mid-Kamakura period. Son of Hojo Shigetoki. First named Tokikage (or Jiryou). From an early age, he served the 6th shogun, Prince Munetaka, as a member of the Shogunate's palace guards and day guards (guards within the Shogun's palace of the Kamakura shogunate), and in 1259 was appointed Sakon no Shogen and Jugoinoge. In 1265 he served as a Hikitsukeshu and in 1266 he became a Councillor under the regent Hojo Tokimune in 1267, and was then appointed as Musashi no Kami. During the Bun'ei War (1274), he assisted Tokimune and helped him overcome the crisis. In April 1277, due to illness, he resigned from his liaison officer position and became a monk (also known as Dogi or Masayoshi), visited Zenkoji Temple in Shinano (Nagano Prefecture), retired to Shioda-sho in the same province, and died there. He is the founder of the Shioda line of the Hojo clan. He was also known as a poet, and his poems are collected in works such as Zoku Shui Wakashu.
