Year of death: November 16, 1603 (December 18, 1603) Year of birth: Tensho 1 (1573) A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. The eldest son of Yoshiyori. Commonly known as Taro and called Sabatou, he was later appointed as a fourth-rank chamberlain. He inherited the family headship from the end of 1586 while his father Yoshiyori was still alive, and worked hard to maintain the power of the daimyo Satomi clan during the turbulent transition from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Period. After the Siege of Odawara in 1588, Toyotomi Hideyoshi confiscated Kazusa Province, and he was placed as a yoriki daimyo under Tokugawa Ieyasu. After that, he participated in various projects as a member of the Toyotomi government, such as the dispatch of troops to Korea and the construction of temples and shrines. He also repaired Tateyama Castle to make it his main castle, worked on the construction of the castle town, and implemented a comprehensive division of fiefs among his vassals based on the Taiko land survey, making repeated efforts to transform into a daimyo of the Early Modern Period. He sided with the Tokugawa in the Battle of Sekigahara, and after the war he was given an additional 30,000 koku of land in the Kashima domain in Hitachi as a reward.
