Euphrasia iinumae (Euphrasia iinumae)

Japanese: コゴメグサ(小米草) - コゴメグサ(英語表記)Euphrasia iinumae
Euphrasia iinumae (Euphrasia iinumae)
An annual plant of the Scrophulariaceae family. It grows in mountain grasslands in central Honshu. The stems are thin, about 20 cm tall, and branch out. The leaves grow opposite each other, but alternate at the top of the branches. They have no stalks and are oval with a long diameter of about 1 cm and sharp sawtooth. In summer, they produce small white lip-shaped flowers in the leaf axils. Many plants in this genus grow in places where other plants cannot easily invade, such as alpine zones, limestone areas, and serpentine areas, and there are many closely related species such as E. matsumurae , E. insignis , and E. yabeana .
