Japanese: 撮像デバイス - さつぞうデバイス（英語表記）image sensing device

A general term for devices that have the function of converting an incident optical image into an electrical video signal based on a specified television format. In general, its operation consists of photoelectric conversion, which converts the incident light into an electrical quantity corresponding to its brightness and darkness, signal accumulation, which holds and integrates the electrical quantity for a certain period of time to increase sensitivity, and scanning, which extracts the spatial distribution of the electrical quantity obtained corresponding to the optical image as a time-series video signal. The incident light is generally visible light, but there are also devices that use invisible light such as X-rays, ultraviolet rays, and infrared rays, as well as ultrasound.

入射光学像を，定められたテレビジョン方式に基づく電気的映像信号に変換する機能をもつデバイスの総称。一般にその動作は，入射光をその明暗に応じた電気量に変換する光電変換と，感度を高めるために電気量をある期間保持して積分する信号蓄積と，光学像に対応して得られた電気量の空間分布を時系列の映像信号として取り出すための走査からなる。入射光は可視光が一般的であるが，X線，紫外線，赤外線などの不可視光や，超音波を対象とするものもある。
