Japanese: 多発性神経炎 - たはつせいしんけいえん

A disease in which two or more peripheral nerves are simultaneously affected. A type of neuritis. Muscle weakness and sensory impairment begin in the extremities, and symptoms gradually spread toward the center of the body. A unique example is acute polyradiculoneuritis (Guillain-Barré syndrome). This is a neuritis of unknown cause that also affects part of the central nervous system, and presents with flaccid paralysis from the lower to upper limbs.

末梢神経が２ヵ所以上同時に冒された病気。神経炎の一種。筋力低下，知覚障害が四肢末梢から起こり，徐々にからだの中心に向かって症状が広がる。特異なものに急性多発性根神経炎（ギラン=バレー症候群）がある。これは中枢神経の一部も冒される原因不明の神経炎で，下肢から上肢にかけて弛緩(しかん)性麻痺(まひ)を呈する。
