Bertil Lindblad

Swedish astronomer. After receiving his doctorate from Uppsala University, he worked at the Lick Observatory and Mount Wilson Observatory in the United States from 1920 to 1922, where he discovered a spectroscopic method for determining the absolute luminosity of stars. In Sweden, Lindbladt's method was later applied to the study of the spatial density distribution of stars in the Milky Way, which became a traditionally active field. Lindbladt continued his research into the structure of the Milky Way, and came to believe that the reason the Milky Way has a flattened, disk-like shape must be due to its rotation.

スウェーデンの天文学者。ウプサラ大学で学位を得て，1920年から22年までアメリカのリック天文台およびウィルソン山天文台におもむき，恒星の絶対光度を決定する分光学的方法を見いだした。スウェーデンでは，その後，リンドブラートの方法を応用して，銀河系における星の空間密度分布の研究が伝統的に盛んに行われるようになった。リンドブラートは銀河系の構造について研究を進めて，銀河系が扁平な円盤形をしている理由は回転によっているに違いないと考えた。
