1895‐1965 Swedish astronomer. After receiving his doctorate from Uppsala University, he worked at the Lick Observatory and Mount Wilson Observatory in the United States from 1920 to 1922, where he discovered a spectroscopic method for determining the absolute luminosity of stars. In Sweden, Lindbladt's method was later applied to the study of the spatial density distribution of stars in the Milky Way, which became a traditionally active field. Lindbladt continued his research into the structure of the Milky Way, and came to believe that the reason the Milky Way has a flattened, disk-like shape must be due to its rotation.
