Spermatocidal agent

A type of contraceptive, it is a drug that kills sperm ejaculated into the vagina or weakens their motility, making fertilization impossible. It contains surfactants such as polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether and menfegol, acids such as lactic acid as adjuvants, and astringents such as tannic acid and alum to coagulate sperm proteins and suppress their motility, and is available in cream (not sold in Japan), jelly, vaginal tablet (foaming tablet), and film form. It is usually inserted into the vagina before sexual intercourse, but creams and jellies can also be applied to condoms.

避妊薬contraceptiveの一種で、腟(ちつ)内に射出された精子を殺滅し、または運動を弱めて受精を不能にする薬剤をいう。界面活性剤のポリオキシエチレンノニルフェニルエーテルやメンフェゴール、補助剤として乳酸などの酸や、精子タンパクを凝固させ運動を抑えるため、収斂(しゅうれん)剤であるタンニン酸、ミョウバンなどが配合され、クリーム（日本では発売されていない）、ゼリー、腟錠（発泡錠）、フィルム状で用いられる。通常、性交前に腟内に挿入するが、クリームやゼリーではコンドームなどに塗布しても用いられる。
