During the Reformation, the Holy Roman Empire's parliaments were often held in the ancient city of Speyer in southwestern Germany. The two parliaments held by Charles V are particularly famous. At the Diet of 1526, Charles V, who needed cooperation in the war against the Turks, made concessions to the Protestant princes and recognized their autonomy in church matters. However, after Charles took control of France and Italy, he revoked the previous decision at the Diet of 1529. The Protestant princes protested against this, which gave rise to the name Protestant. → Related topic Reformation Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
