This was a domain that ruled the region of Sasayama in Tanba Province (Tanba Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture). Before the construction of Sasayama Castle, Maeda Shigekatsu (the second son of Gen'i) and Matsudaira (Matsui) Yasushige lived in Yakami Castle. In 1609 (Keicho 14), the year after Yasushige entered the domain, the shogunate ordered the construction of a castle in Sasayama. Twenty daimyo from 15 provinces in the southwest were ordered to help with the construction, and it was completed within the year, and Yasushige moved to the new castle in December. After that, Matsudaira (Fujii) Nobuyoshi entered the domain in 1619 (Genna 5), Matsudaira (Katahara) Yasunobu entered the domain in 1649 (Keian 2), and Aoyama Tadatomo entered the domain in 1749 (Kan'en 2). From Yasushige onwards, each feudal lord's stipend was 50,000 koku, but Aoyama Tadayasu was awarded an additional 10,000 koku for his achievements as a senior councilor. Some feudal lords established the domain school Shintokudo (Aoyama Tadataka) and encouraged literature, but they neglected civil administration within their domains, which often led to peasant uprisings. Rebellions, which occurred frequently in particular in the 18th century, seemed to have calmed down with the uprising of 1771 (Meiwa 8), but then turned into unrest among the villagers, and finally led to a major uprising in 1860 (Man'en 1). There was a time when tea and tachikui ware were monopolized by the domain. The domain was abolished in 1871 (Meiji 4), and after passing through Sasayama Prefecture and Toyooka Prefecture, it was incorporated into Hyogo Prefecture in 1876.
