Lead Acetate - Sakusan Namari

There are lead acetate(II) and lead acetate(IV). When simply referring to lead acetate, it means Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 ・3H 2 O (lead sugar). [ I ] Lead acetate(II): Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 (325.29). When warm dilute acetic acid is added to lead oxide(II) and the solution is dissolved and then cooled, the trihydrate is obtained. When the trihydrate is heated to 75°C, the anhydrous form is obtained. The anhydrous form is a white crystal. Melting point 204°C. Density 3.12 g cm -3 . The trihydrate is a colorless monoclinic crystal. Density 2.54 g cm -3 . Melting point 75°C. Both are easily soluble in water, glycerin, etc. It is used as a raw material for producing lead salts, lead plating, waterproofing, varnish production, pigment production, hair dye, analytical reagent, pharmaceuticals, and dyeing. It is toxic. [CAS 301-04-2:Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 ][CAS 6080-56-4:Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 ・3H 2 O][CAS 1335-32-6:Pb(CH 3 COO) 2 ・2PbO・2H 2 O]【 II 】Lead(IV) acetate: Pb(CH 3 COO) 4 (443.38). Also called lead tetraacetate. It is obtained by dissolving trilead tetroxide in glacial acetic acid and cooling. It is a colorless monoclinic crystal. Melting point 175 °C. Density 2.23 g cm -3 . It dissolves in hot acetic acid and chloroform, but decomposes in water to become lead(IV) oxide. It is used as a strong oxidizing agent in organic synthesis. [CAS 546-67-8]
