Shimizu Hamaomi

Japanese:
Shimizu Hamaomi

A poet and scholar of Japanese classics in the late Edo period. His real surname was Fujiwara, his given name was Harunaga, and his pen names were Hamaomi and Sazanaminoya. He was born in Edo. His father was a doctor, and Hamaomi also did medicine as his main occupation. He learned poetry and prose from Murata Harumi, and after Kato Chikage and Harumi, he became influential in the Edo poetry world. His family anthology, the "Hakusaminoyashu" (1829), includes such poems as "I am drunk on the fine wine, my head is shaking, my hands are shaking, my legs are shaking, I am shaking." Fearing that the writings of the Kamo Mabuchi clan, or Kenmon, would be scattered, he made a great contribution by compiling and publishing the five volumes of "Kenmon Iko" (1811-1823), and he also wrote essays such as "Hakuhohitsuwa" (completed in 1816), which contains anecdotes about the people of the Kenmon.
