A port town in Aomi District, Mikawa Province, located near present-day Hamadera Town, Hekinan City, Aichi Prefecture. Before the Keicho period (1596-1615), when Aburagafuchi was an inlet, Ohama-go formed a peninsula and was an important location for maritime traffic. According to documents from Shomyoji Temple in 1421, Toimaru was located here, and it was a distribution center for lumber with large and small ships entering the port. From travel writings such as "Fuji Rekiranki" and "Togoku Kiko," it is known that it was on the transportation route between Owari, Ise, and Mikawa. Oda Nobunaga often attacked the area, and Tokugawa Ieyasu is said to have built a fort here as well. During the Edo period, it was a base for transporting rice as tax and flourished as a shipping port for agricultural products. It was one of the five ports in the three districts of Aomi, Hazu, and Hoi designated by the shogunate magistrate in 1635. Its trading area extended from the Mikawa Bay area to the coast of Ise Bay, and further to Edo and Osaka. In 1798, eight cargo ships were attached to the port, and rice, sake (Sanshu sake), tiles, ginned cotton, and other products were shipped to Edo. Of the 32,112 koku of Mikawa sake shipped downstream in 1836, the majority of Hekikai County's share was shipped from Ohama Port. Return goods from Edo included soybeans, adzuki beans, dried sardines, fish cakes, and fish oil. The port continued to thrive as a commercial port even after the Meiji era began. → Related items Numazu Domain Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
