Cropping season - Sakuki (English spelling)

Japanese: 作期 - さくき（英語表記）cropping season

This refers to the period during which crops are grown, and is also written as "season." Each crop has its own growing season that is suitable for its growth, corresponding to the changing of the seasons. A typical example in temperate regions is the cultivation of a combination of crops with different growing seasons, such as summer crops (rice, corn, sweet potatoes, etc.) that are sown in early spring and harvested in autumn, and winter crops (barley, rapeseed, etc.) that are sown in autumn and harvested in spring. Even for the same type of crop, the growing season often differs depending on the weather conditions of the land where it is grown and its relationship with other crops.

農作物の栽培時期のことで作季とも書く。個々の農作物には季節の移り変りに対応して，それぞれの生育に適した作期がある。温帯地域での典型的な例をあげると，春先に播種（はしゆ）して秋に収穫する夏作物(イネ，トウモロコシ，サツマイモなど)，秋に播種して春に収穫する冬作物(ムギ類，ナタネなど)といった作期の異なる農作物を組み合わせて栽培するのがふつうである。また同一種の農作物であっても，栽培される土地の気象条件や他作物との組合せの関係から，作期が異なってくる場合も多い。
