A method of measuring water depth using sound waves. An echo sounder emits ultrasonic waves of 10 to 200 kHz vertically, measures the time required from transmission to reception, and converts this to water depth by multiplying it by the assumed speed of sound. It consists of a transmitter/receiver and a control/recording device, and is usually self-recording, providing continuous depth measurements. In recent years, more and more devices have been used that use cathode ray tubes to display in color. They are available in a range of sizes, from shallow water models used in harbors and rivers to models for deep waters of over 10,000 meters. For precise depth measurements, the water temperature and salinity are measured, the sound propagation speed is calculated, and the value obtained based on the assumed speed of sound is corrected. →Sonar/Fish finder→Related topics: Depth sounder | Ultrasonic | Multi-narrow beam echo sounder Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
