Saing Waing (English spelling)

Japanese: サイン･ワイン（英語表記）saing waing

Pat waing refers to the tuned drum (also called pat waing) of Myanmar and the percussion ensemble that centers around this drum. 19 to 23 tuned drums are hung inside a circular wooden frame, and the player sits in the center and plays with both hands. The ensemble also includes chee waing (a ring of gongs), ne (a reed instrument of the oboe family), large and small drums, gongs, cymbals, clappers, and singing. During religious festivals such as pwe, the ensemble is played all night long to accompany dances and plays, producing a very lively sound.

ミャンマーの調律太鼓(パット･ワインpat waingともいう)，およびこの太鼓を中心とする打楽器主体の合奏をいう。環状の木枠の内側に19～23個の調律された太鼓を吊り，奏者は中央に座って両手で演奏する。合奏には，ほかにチー･ワイン(環状に並んだゴング)，ネー(オーボエ属のリード楽器)，大小の太鼓やゴング，シンバル，拍子木に歌も加わり，宗教上の祭りプウェpweなどでは，夜を徹して舞踊や演劇の伴奏にたいへんにぎやかな音で演奏される。
