A type of memory (RAM) that can read and rewrite stored data at any time. It stands for static random access memory. Unlike DRAM, there is no need to refresh (rewrite) stored data. Information is stored in flip-flops consisting of four to six transistors. As a result, the memory cell size is about four times that of DRAM, making it difficult to increase capacity and the cost per unit of capacity is also high. However, in addition to not needing to refresh, it has the characteristics of fast access time of less than 30ns, high speed reading and writing of information, and extremely small current consumption when not in operation, measured in picoamperes (10-12), and is widely used as low-power memory in portable electronic devices and cache memory in computers where speed is important. 蓄えられた記憶データを随時に読み出したり書き換えたりできるメモリ（RAM）の一種。static random access memoryの略。DRAMと違って，記憶データのリフレッシュ動作（再書き込み）を必要としない。情報は 4個から 6個のトランジスタからなるフリップフロップに蓄える。そのために，メモリセルサイズが DRAMの場合の 4倍程度と大きく大容量化しにくく，容量あたりのコストも割高になる。しかし，リフレッシュ不要ということに加えて，アクセスタイムが 30ns以下と小さく情報の読み書きが高速であること，非動作時の消費電流がピコ（10の－12乗）アンペアの単位で極端に小さいという特徴があり，携帯用電子機器の低消費電力メモリや速度を重視するコンピュータのキャッシュメモリなどに広く使われている。（→ラム）
