Reticular tissue

Reticular tissue
A type of connective tissue found in hematopoietic tissues such as the spleen, lymph nodes, and bone marrow, as well as in the thymus. It is the main part of the reticuloendothelial system. The basic cells are reticular cells with argyrophilic reticular fibers on their surface, with long projections that connect them together in a mesh-like pattern, and the spaces between the mesh are filled with blast cells that produce various types of blood cells, mainly lymphocytes. Reticular cells not only perform phagocytosis, but also produce antibodies against foreign substances. Their numbers increase rapidly during infection, causing the spleen and lymph nodes to enlarge. At this time, some cells exhibit migratory properties and appear at the site of infection.
