Willamette University

...The capital of the state of Oregon in the northwest of the United States. Population 116,000 (1994). Located almost in the center of the Willamette Valley, known as a fertile agricultural region, the city has developed industries such as agricultural processing of fruits and vegetables, meat processing, paper manufacturing, and wood products. In 1840, Methodist missionaries settled on the Willamette River to evangelize the Indians. Their denominational school, Oregon Institute, remains today as Willamette University, and is known as the oldest university in the Pacific Northwest.
