The name of Elam. Elam was the name of an ancient state established in what is now southwestern Iran, and the name Anshan first appears in an inscription by Akkadian king Manishtus, which mentions the conquest of Anshan. Anshan's political importance is indicated by the title of the ruler of the unified Elamite kingdom in the 2nd millennium BC, "King of Anshan and Susa." Its location was previously unknown due to conflicting theories, but excavations since 1971 have identified it as the Tal-i-Maryan ruins in southeastern Iran.

エラムの地名。エラムは現在のイラン南西部に成立した古代国家の名称で，アンシャンの名が初めて現れるのは，アンシャンの征服に言及したアッカド王マニシュトゥスの碑文である。アンシャンの政治的重要性は，前2千年紀の統一エラム王国における支配者の称号〈アンシャンおよびスーサの王〉に示されている。所在地についてはこれまで諸説が対立して不明であったが，1971年以降の発掘調査によってイラン南東部のタル･イ･マルヤン遺跡に比定されるにいたった。
