Sisal

Japanese: サイザルアサ
Sisal
Also known as sisal. A perennial plant of the Amaryllidaceae family native to Central America, it is an important fiber crop. It is widely cultivated in Hawaii, the eastern West Indies, and Africa. It is in the same genus as agave and looks similar, but its leaves do not have thorns. The fiber in the leaves is soft and elastic, and has high durability in water, so it is used to make ropes for ships and fishing, as well as ropes, harnesses, and sheets.
