The diversity of concepts surrounding the term "Hellenism" is also reflected in the terminology of art history, where "Hellenistic art" is often used to mean a style of integration of Greek art and the art of other ethnic groups (for example, "Hellenistic art in Gandhara" (Gandharan art)). However, the phenomenon of Hellenizing the art of other ethnic groups only became evident during the Roman Empire, and has no relation to the era-specific concept of "Hellenism" that began with the 19th-century German historian JG Droysen's "History of Hellenism" and is now commonly used.
