Also written as Kunisu or Kunisu. A resident who is said to have lived in Yoshino District, Yamato Province, and Ibaraki District, Hitachi Province. (1) In the Kojiki, Emperor Jimmu's chapter, the national deity Iwaoshiwakunoko is described as "the ancestor of Yoshino Kunisu." In the Nihon Shoki, the entry for the 19th year of Emperor Ojin's reign, it is said that "he was a very simple person, and would always pick and eat mountain delicacies, and also boil frogs as a seasoning, which he called Momi." When Emperor Ojin visited Yoshino Palace, the Kunisu people offered sake, and in court ceremonies, this was called "Kunisu-no-musu," and examples of this included offering sacrifices and playing songs and flutes at various Shinto ceremonies such as the Daijo-e and the New Year's Sechie. (2) The Hitachi no Kuni Fudoki states that Kuninsu in the same province was also called “Tsuchikumo” or “Yatsukahagi.” Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
