Ookuchi [city] - Ookuchi
An old city in northern Kagoshima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It is located in the Oguchi Basin upstream of the Kawauchi River and prospered thanks to two gold mines, Ushio and Fuke. The basin is a major producer of high-quality Isa rice, and livestock processing is also carried out. The surrounding mountains are home to timber logging and lumber mills. There is Tadamoto Park, known for its Senbonzakura-lined avenue, and Soginotaki Park. In November 2008, it merged with Hishikari Town, Isa County, to form Isa City. 291.89 km2 . Population: 22,119 (2005).

鹿児島県北部の旧市。1954年市制。川内川上流の大口盆地にあって牛尾,布計(ふけ)の2金山で栄えた。盆地は良質の伊佐米の大産地で,畜産加工も行われる。周辺の山地では木材切出し,製材が盛ん。千本桜の並木道で知られる忠元公園,曾木ノ滝公園がある。2008年11月伊佐郡菱刈町と合併,伊佐市となる。291.89km2。2万2119人(2005)。
