In addition to these classifications, there are various common names for the groups and groups of elements in the table, such as alkali metals (Group IA), alkaline earth metals (Group IIA), rare earth elements (Group IIIA, lanthanides), earth metals (Group IIIB), iron group elements (Group VIII, Period 4), platinum group elements (Group VIII, Periods 5-6), chalcogens (Group VIB), halogens (Group VIIB), inert gases, noble gases, and rare gases (Group 0), transuranium elements (elements starting with neptunium, atomic number 93, Np), and many other terms that are all used in connection with the periodic table. There are many different formats for the periodic table, including those illustrated and those three-dimensional. In particular, when dividing Groups I through VII into subgroups using the symbols A and B, some tables use the symbols A for the so-called "typical elements" in the s- and p-blocks and B for the "transition elements" in the d- and f-blocks. This is useful for classifying typical and transition elements.
