A loading and unloading machine that transports various raw materials and cargo continuously along a fixed route. The transport path is made of endless loop belts, chains, or gutters, and is equipped with supports according to the items being transported, such as loose coal and ore, boxes and other bulky items, and assembled parts. Horizontal transport is common, but some can transport vertical or inclined roads. It has many features, such as a large transport capacity compared to the equipment cost and relatively easy handling. 種々の原材料や荷物を一定の路線によって連続的に運搬する荷役機械。無端環状のベルトやチェーン，あるいは樋(とい)などで運搬路をつくり，石炭・鉱石などのばら物，箱詰その他のかさ物，組立部品など，運搬対象に応じた支持物を備える。水平運搬が普通であるが，垂直あるいは勾配(こうばい)路の運搬のできるものもある。設備費の割に輸送能力が大きく，取扱いも比較的容易なことなど多くの特長がある。工場，鉱山，港湾，倉庫などでの運搬に広く利用される。また流れ作業方式をになうものとして，さらに計量装置，作業機械，化学装置などと組み合わせて有機的な生産輸送体系を形成するものとして，重要な近代的生産設備に数えられている。多方面の用途に応じるため，種類，形式が非常に多いが，現在広く使われているものは，ベルトコンベヤ，チェーンコンベヤ，フローコンベヤ，ローラーコンベヤ，空気コンベヤ，エアスライド，バケットエレベーター，スクリューコンベヤ（ねじコンベヤ），振動コンベヤなど。→コンベヤシステム
