This is a device in which a balance is placed in a vacuum vessel, which is evacuated and all balance operations can be performed from outside the vessel. It is used for mass measurements in which it is necessary to eliminate external influences by performing measurements in air. In addition to the traditional mechanical manual balances and direct reading balances, electric balances that are easy to operate remotely are often used these days, and weighing capacities range from a few kilograms used in research on mass standards to a few milligrams used in research on physical properties. The vessel is a vacuum-resistant glass bell or a metal vessel with a viewing window, and a vacuum pump is used for evacuation. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
