Year of birth: Unknown He was an official and a man of letters in the first half of the 8th century. His surname is also written as Asada. He was probably the son of Tono Haruhaji, a refugee from Baekje. He was originally called Tomoto, but in Jinki 1 (724) he was given the surname Asada no Muraji. At that time he was a Junior Eighth Rank Upper. In Tenpyo 3 (731) he was promoted to Junior Sixth Rank Upper, and in the 11th year of the same year he was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank Lower. He served as a daisen in Dazaifu (Dazaifu City) around the second or third year of Tenpyo, and left four poems in the Manyoshu, including a poem he composed as a farewell gift for Dazaifu Governor Otomo no Tabito when he came to Kyoto. In the Kaifu-mo, he included a five-character poem in harmony with a poem by Omi no Kami Fujiwara no Nakamaro, which states that he was Iwami no Kami with a Junior Fifth Rank Lower. Considering Nakamaro's tenure as Omi no Kami, this was probably between the 17th year of Tenpyo and the 8th year of Tenpyo Hoji (764). He died at the age of 56.
