A former town in Taki District, in the central eastern part of Hyogo Prefecture. Most of the town area is covered by forests. Rice is grown here, and black soybeans are a specialty. It is the home of Tamba ware, home to the Tachikui kiln, and produces tea utensils, sake utensils, and decorative items. Shiitake mushrooms and frozen tofu are also produced here. In April 1999, it merged with Sasayama Town, Nishiki Town, and Tannan Town in Taki District to become a city, Sasayama City. Area: 51.99 km2. Population: 3,896 (1995). 兵庫県中東部,多紀郡の旧町。町域の大部分を山林が占める。米作を行い,黒大豆を特産する。丹波焼の本場で立杭(たちくい)窯があり,茶器,酒器,装飾品などを産する。シイタケ,凍り豆腐も産する。1999年4月に,多紀郡篠山(ささやま)町,西紀(にしき)町,丹南町と合併し市制,篠山市となる。51.99km2。3896人(1995)。
