A book that compiles records and anecdotes related to the colonization of Iceland. It consists of five volumes, and although the author and date of its creation are unknown, the main part is said to have been written by Ari bin Brode (1067-1148), a pioneer in the study of Icelandic history. It describes the history of the island over a period of about 120 years, from the discovery of the island by a Swedish castaway around 870 to the spread of Christianity. The preface includes a sentence that asserts that Thile (Greek: Thoulē), known since Greek times as the "end of the world," is Iceland, and became the source of the legend that regards the island as the imaginary homeland of northern Europeans.
