〘Noun〙① (older: "ganjo") A document that describes the purpose of a prayer to the gods and Buddhas. A prayer (ganmon) . ※Utsubo (around 970-999), Chrysanthemum Banquet " When my father's heart changed in response to my request for the lord's work, I was surprised to see him do something mischievous." ※Taiheiki (late 14th century), 9 "Takauji submitted a petition (gwanjo) to the Hachimangu Shrine in Shinomura." ② A document submitted to obtain permission. Often used to mean an application for admission. ※Fukuzawa Yukichi's Autobiography (1899), Osaka Shugyo "This time, I have to submit a petition (gwansho) to the domain."
