Korodai (English spelling) Trout sweetlips

Japanese: コロダイ - ころだい（英語表記）trout sweetlips

A marine fish of the family Porgonidae (illustration) in the order Perciformes. It is widely distributed in the western Pacific Ocean from central Honshu southward and in the Indian Ocean. It is called korodai in various parts of Wakayama Prefecture. It is called egodai in Lake Hamana, kotai in the Seto Inland Sea and Kochi Prefecture, and kawakodai in Kagoshima Prefecture. On Futagijima Island in Mie Prefecture, it is called kyomodori, which is said to mean that it was sent to Kyoto as sea bream but was sent back as it was not. In Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, small ones are called machimawari because they are unsellable due to their poor taste and are sold around town. Juveniles and adults have different body patterns, with juveniles having four black vertical stripes running across a pale gray-blue background and black spots on the dorsal, pelvic and anal fins.

スズキ目イサキ科の海産魚（イラスト）。本州中部以南の西部太平洋，インド洋に広く分布する。和歌山県下の各地でコロダイと呼ぶ。浜名湖でエゴダイ，瀬戸内海，高知県でコタイ，鹿児島県でカワコダイと呼ぶ。三重県二木島ではキョウモドリというが，これはタイとして京へ送ったが違うとして送り返されたとの意であるといわれる。和歌山県田辺では小型のものは不味のため売れず町を売りまわるとしてマチマワリと呼ばれる。幼魚と成魚で体の紋様が異なり，幼魚は淡灰青色の地色に4本の黒色縦帯が走り，背びれ，腹びれ，しりびれなどに黒色斑がある。
