〘Noun〙[1 ] The head of the Ennenmai dance, a form of entertainment, at a Buddhist ceremony. *Daijo-in Temple and Shrine Journal - July 23, 1466 (Bunsho 1) "Kamikodengaku-gashira/Ennen-gashira" [2] A festival held on the 14th of the 7th month of the lunar calendar at Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture. After the ceremony, naked men from the east and west competed for the head of a beautifully decorated doll that was over three feet tall and hung in the worship hall. Even today, the festival is held on August 20th at the shrine as the "Tamatori Festival," in which men compete for a jewel instead of the head. 〘名〙[一] 法会(ほうえ)において、法楽の延年舞を催す頭役。※大乗院寺社雑事記‐文正元年(1466)七月二三日「上古田楽頭・延年頭」[二] 広島県の厳島神社で、旧暦七月一四日に行なわれた祭。儀式のあと、拝殿につるされた三尺余の、美しく飾った人形の首を、東西に分かれた裸の男たちが奪い合ったもの。同社では今日でも八月二〇日に、首の代わりに宝珠を争う「玉取祭(たまとりまつり)」として続けられている。《季・秋》 〔俳諧・滑稽雑談(1713)〕
