Born: September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina
[Died] July 17, 1967. Huntington, Long Island. American jazz tenor saxophonist. He began his professional career at the age of 19, and in 1955, he joined Miles Davis' combo and gained attention. In 1960, he formed his own combo, and through his unique style of avant-garde performances, which also included the soprano saxophone, he brilliantly combined musical expression with ideological expression, giving new life to jazz. However, his death at the height of his power is a great loss to the jazz world and has had a great impact on it. His representative work is A Love Supreme.
