Cordeliers Club (English)

Japanese: コルドリエ･クラブ（英語表記）Club des Cordeliers

A private club founded in Paris in the spring of 1790 for the purpose of monitoring and criticizing revolutionary politics. Its official name was the Society of Friends of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, but it came to be called the Cordeliers Club because its headquarters was initially located in the Cordeliers Monastery on the left bank of the Seine. Of all clubs in the country, this club played an important role in the revolution, second only to the Jacobin Club. However, many of its leaders were future Mountaineers such as Danton and Marat, and membership fees were low, so it tended to be more populist and radical than the Jacobin Club.

革命政治の監視と批判を目的に1790年春にパリで設立された民間のクラブ。正式名称は〈人間と市民の諸権利の友の会Société des droits de l’homme et du citoyen〉であるが，最初セーヌ左岸のコルドリエ修道院に本部をおいたため，コルドリエ･クラブと呼ばれるようになった。このクラブは，革命において，全国のクラブのうち，ジャコバン･クラブに次いで重要な役割を演じた。しかし，指導者にはダントン，マラなどの後の山岳派が多くみられ，会費も低額であったため，ジャコバン･クラブにくらべ民衆的で急進的な傾向を持っていた。
