[1] 〘 noun 〙 Taking care of children. Also, a person who does so. Mori. ※ Ukiyo -zoshi , Nihon Eitaigura (1688) 1 “The sand that is drowning in the water is also practiced in the hands of the babysitter. ” [2][1] It refers to Mikumari Shrine in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture . It was worshipped as a god who protects and raises children. ※Ryōjin Hisho (around 1179) 2 “There are monks who practice Buddhism when passing through Omine. Only one young man, the monk , strokes his head, and the eight great children protect him.” [2] Kabuki Shosakuto. Kiyomoto. Lyrics by Masuyama Kinpachi. Music by Kiyomoto Saibei. One of the five seasonal festivals and five transformations dance “ Yamatoga na Tamuke no Itsumoji .” It was first performed at the Moritaza Theater in Edo in 1823. It is a dance about a babysitter from Echigo, who was a common custom in the streets of Edo. There are several other dances about babysitters.

[1] 〘名〙 子どもの面倒をみること。また、それをする人。もり。※浮世草子・日本永代蔵(1688)一「行(ゆく)水にかく砂手習地筭(ぢざん)も子守(こモリ)の片手に置習ひ」[2][一] 奈良県吉野にある水分神社(みくまりじんじゃ)をいう。子どもを守り育てる神として、信仰を集めた。※梁塵秘抄(1179頃)二「大峯通るには仏法修行する僧居たり 唯一人 若(にゃく)やこもりは頭を摩(な)でたまひ 八大童子は身を護る」[二] 歌舞伎所作事。清元。増山金八作詞。清元斎兵衛作曲。五節句五変化舞踊「大和い手向五字(やまとがなたむけのいつもじ)」の一つ。文政六年(一八二三)江戸森田座初演。江戸の市井の風俗であった、越後出身の子守り女を舞踊化したもの。他にも子守の舞踊化は数曲ある。
