Misaka Pass

This pass passes through the saddle between Mt. Misaka (1,596 meters) and Mt. Kurodake (1,793 meters) in Yamanashi Prefecture. It has long been used as a pass connecting the Kofu Basin and the northern foothills of Mt. Fuji, but the Misaka Tunnel (National Route 137) opened at Hachcho Pass, and in 1967 (Showa 42) the Shin-Misaka Tunnel was completed to the west of Mt. Misaka as a prefectural toll road (it became free in 1994), doubling the accessibility of the area. The old national route has a certain charm as a mountain pass road, and has been attracting attention in recent years, with traffic volume increasing slightly.

山梨県の御坂山（1596メートル）と黒岳（1793メートル）との鞍部(あんぶ)を通る峠。古くから甲府盆地と富士北麓(ほくろく)を結ぶ峠として利用されてきたが、八町峠(はっちょうとうげ)に御坂トンネル（国道137号）が通じ、さらに1967年（昭和42）県営有料道路として御坂山の西に新御坂トンネルが完成し（1994年無料化）、交通の便は倍加した。旧国道は峠路として趣(おもむき)があり、近年は注目され、交通量もやや増加している。
