Komazawa University

It is a private institution. Its origins lie in the private school Sendanrin, built by the Soto sect in 1592 (Bunroku 1). In 1882 (Meiji 15), it became a university forest of the Soto sect, and in 1925 (Taisho 14), it became a university under the University Act. At that time, it was renamed to its current name after the area it was relocated to, and in 1949 (Showa 24), it transitioned to a new university system. As of 2010 (Heisei 22), it has seven faculties: Faculty of Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and Faculty of Global Media Studies, and seven graduate schools: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and Faculty of Legal Training. The Hokkaido Liberal Arts Department, established in 1964 (Showa 39), stopped accepting students in 1998 (Heisei 10). Tomakomai Komazawa University was established in Nishikioka, Tomakomai City in 1997. It emphasizes the idea of ​​"practice and study as one" as advocated by Dogen, the founder of the Soto sect, and is characterized by education and research centered on the traditional Buddhist Studies Department. It is located at 1-23-1 Komazawa, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.

私立。1592年（文禄1）に曹洞宗(そうとうしゅう)が建てた私学旃檀林(せんだんりん)を起源とする。1882年（明治15）曹洞宗の大学林となり、1925年（大正14）大学令による大学となる。その際、移転地の名をとって現在名に改称、1949年（昭和24）新制大学に移行した。2010年（平成22）時点で、仏教学部、文学部、経済学部、法学部、経営学部、医療健康科学部、グローバル・メディア・スタディーズ学部の7学部と人文科学、経済学、商学、法学、経営学、医療健康科学、法曹養成の7研究科の大学院をもつ。1964年（昭和39）に設置された北海道教養部は1998年度（平成10）より学生募集を停止。1997年に苫小牧(とまこまい)駒沢大学が苫小牧市錦岡に新設された。曹洞宗の開祖道元の説いた「行学一如」を強調し、伝統ある仏教学部を中心とした教育、研究を特色の一つとする。所在地は東京都世田谷(せたがや)区駒沢1-23-1。
