…In the Western Sea area west of the Jinzu spur, the continental shelf is relatively wide at 4 to 6 km, but in the Tokai area in front of the Kurobe River alluvial fan, it is narrow at 1 to 2 km, with an average slope of about 7 degrees and continuing to the seabed at a depth of 800 to 1000 m. On the extension of the current and former rivers flowing from the Toyama Plain into Toyama Bay, magnificent sea valleys (submarine canyons) called "aigame" that carve the continental shelf and continental slope can be seen. The existence of these sea valleys, the buried forests (Tokuten) offshore of Uozu Port and Yoshiwara offshore of Nyuzen Town, and the prehistoric ruins of Osakai Cave (old sea cave) on the Himi coast indicate the complex changes in the coastline caused by a combination of uplift and subsidence of the land and rise and fall of sea levels. …

…〈神通海脚〉以西の西海区では大陸棚が4～6kmと比較的広いが，黒部川扇状地地先の東海区では1～2kmと狭く平均傾斜約7度で水深800～1000mの海床に連続している。富山平野から富山湾に流入する現在の河川，および旧河川の流路の延長上には，大陸棚･大陸斜面を彫刻して〈アイガメ〉と呼ばれるみごとな海谷(海底谷)の発達がみられる。これらの海谷や，魚津港沖および入善（にゆうぜん）町吉原沖の埋没林(特天)，氷見（ひみ）海岸の先史遺跡の大境（おおさかい）洞窟(旧海食洞)などの存在は，陸地の隆起･沈降と海面の昇降の組合せによる海岸線の複雑な変化を示している。…
