This music accompanies various mass liturgies in Coptic monasteries and churches, and is centered on hymns in Coptic. Compared to other Eastern churches, the Coptic Church's liturgy is so rich that it can be said that the entire liturgy is a musical flow in itself. The choirmaster and several choristers sing monophonic chants in a somewhat unique tone and form, incorporating a responsorial form. The singers themselves use small cymbals, sistrums, naqous and other metal idiophones as accompaniment. Coptic music is rich in Eastern coloration and contains many elements of Egyptian folk music and early Christian music.

コプトの修道院，教会での各種のミサ典礼にともなう音楽で，コプト語の賛歌が中心である。他の東方教会にくらべ，コプト教会の典礼はその全体が音楽の流れそのものといえるほど豊かである。合唱長と数人の合唱隊により，単旋律聖歌が応答唱形式をもとり入れながら，いくらかの特殊な音調･形態のもとに歌われる。伴奏楽器として，小型シンバル，シストルム，ナークースなどの金属製体鳴楽器を歌い手自身が用いる。コプト音楽は東方的色彩に富み，エジプト本来の民俗音楽，初期キリスト教音楽の要素を多量に含む。
