[Born] Around 713/714 [Death]801 A female Islamic mystic. She was sold into slavery as a child, but was later freed and became active in Basra. She was considered a saint by later mystics and attributed many miracles to her, but much about her life remains unknown. She is known as the first person to introduce the idea of love for God into Islamic mysticism.
