Japanese: コブシガニ(拳蟹) - コブシガニ（英語表記）Leucosia obtusifrons

This crab of the family Lucosiidae lives on sandy and muddy bottoms at depths of 30 to 100 meters, and its round, raised shell has a porcelain-like luster (illustration). It is uniformly orange-red in color, with small and large round markings arranged in a slight arc on either side of the midline of the shell. The shell is 3 cm wide. It is known from Tokyo Bay to the west coast of Kyushu, and off the coast of Sri Lanka. There are about 60 species of Lucosiidae crabs found in Japan, and many distinctive species in shallow waters include the long-horned kobus crab L. anatum , which has a protruding forehead, the four-spotted kobus crab L. craniolaris , which has prominent four spots, and the long-armed kobus crab Myra fugax , which has remarkably long claw legs.

水深30～100mの砂泥底にすむ甲殻綱コブシガニ科のカニで，まるく盛り上がった甲面が陶器のような光沢をもつ（イラスト）。一様に橙赤色で，まるい大小の紋が甲面の正中線左右にわずかに弧を描いて並んでいる。甲幅3cm。東京湾から九州西岸までとスリランカ沖から知られている。コブシガニ科の日本産のカニは約60種で，浅海には，額の突き出したツノナガコブシガニL.anatum，四つの斑紋が目だつヨツメコブシガニL.craniolaris，はさみ脚が著しく長いテナガコブシガニMyra fugaxなど特徴的な種が多い。
