Maksutov camera

Japanese: マクストフカメラ（英語表記）Maksutov camera

A type of bright, wide-angle catadioptric optical system that combines a spherical primary mirror and a meniscus lens. The Schmidt camera, invented in 1930, is a famous example of a bright, wide-angle optical system, but the corrector plate used to eliminate spherical aberration is a highly aspherical surface and is not easy to manufacture. Around 1942, Dmitrii Dmitrievich Maksutov (1896-1964) of the Soviet Union introduced a thick meniscus lens as a substitute for the corrector plate, creating a bright, wide-angle camera using only spherical surfaces.

球面主鏡とメニスカスレンズを組み合わせた明るい広角のカタデオプトリック光学系の一種。広角で明るい光学系としては，1930年に発明されたシュミットカメラが有名であるが，球面収差を除去するための補正板は高次の非球面で製作が容易でない。42年ころ，ソ連のマクストフDmitrii Dmitrievich Maksutov(1896‐1964)は，補正板の代用として厚いメニスカスレンズを導入し，球面だけの組合せで明るい広角のカメラを実現した。
