Bone metastasis cancer

Japanese: 骨転移癌 - こつてんいがん

All cancers that occur in the bones are called malignant bone tumors, but when cancers that occur in various organs such as the breast, lung, stomach, uterus, thyroid, and prostate metastasize to the bones during the course of the disease, they are called bone metastases or bone metastatic cancers. In rare cases, cancers with an unknown primary site may metastasize to the bones, causing only bone symptoms and being mistaken for primary bone tumors. Breast cancer is the most common cancer that is likely to metastasize to the bones, and in rare cases, bone metastases may occur 10 years after treatment. The main symptom of bone metastasis is pain at the site of metastasis, but other symptoms include swelling, pathological fractures, and spinal cord paralysis due to spinal metastasis.

骨に生じる癌はすべて悪性骨腫瘍と呼ばれるが，乳房，肺，胃，子宮，甲状腺，前立腺などいろいろな臓器に生じた癌が，病気の経過中に骨に転移を生じた場合，癌の骨転移もしくは骨転移癌と呼ぶ。まれには，どこに生じたか原発巣不明の癌が骨に転移を生じ，骨の症状のみが出現し，原発性の骨腫瘍と間違われることもある。　骨に転移を生じやすい癌の筆頭は乳癌で，まれには治療後10年を経過して骨に転移を生じることもある。癌の骨転移の症状は転移部位の疼痛が主であるが，そのほか腫張，病的骨折，脊椎転移による脊髄麻痺などがある。
