Jehol Operation

Japanese: 熱河作戦 - ねっかさくせん

The Japanese army (Kwantung Army) invaded Jehol and Hebei provinces in China during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Geographically, Jehol was part of Inner Mongolia, but politically it was connected to the three eastern provinces (Fengtian, Jilin, and Heilongjiang) under the control of the Fengtian warlords. In March 1932, the Kwantung Army established Manchukuo and declared Jehol to be part of its territory, but the provincial governor, Tang Yulin, was ambiguous. After completing its operations in northern Manchukuo, the Kwantung Army took the opportunity of a clash between Japanese and Chinese troops at Shanhaiguan in January 1933 to take control of Jehol in February, mobilizing the 6th and 8th Divisions, the 14th and 33rd Mixed Brigades, and other forces to invade Jehol, occupying Chengde on March 4, and reaching the line of the Great Wall around the 10th.

日中戦争時における日本軍(関東軍)の中国熱河省，河北省への侵攻作戦。熱河省は地理的には内モンゴルの一部であるが，政治的には奉天軍閥の支配下に東三省(奉天，吉林，黒竜江の3省)に連なっていた。1932年3月満州国を樹立した関東軍は熱河省もその領域であると宣言したが，省主席湯玉麟はあいまいな態度をとった。関東軍は北満作戦を一段落させると，33年1月山海関で日中両軍の衝突が発生したのを機に，2月熱河制圧に着手し，第6･第8師団，混成第14･第33旅団その他の兵力を動員して熱河省へ侵攻，3月4日承徳を占領したうえ，10日前後に万里の長城の線に達した。
