Kokokuwon-wang (English: King of the Homeland)
? ‐371
The 16th king of Goguryeo, Korea. Reigned 331-371. Son of King Micheon, he was also known as King Kuokakami. Invaded by Murong Huang of Yan, his mother was taken as a hostage in 342 and his father's tomb was also exhumed, but the following year he sent his younger brother to Yan to pay tribute as a vassal and recover his father's body. After that, fearing Yan, he decided to advance south to the Korean peninsula. In 371, he clashed with King Geunchogo of Baekje and was killed by a stray arrow. It is said that the king was buried in Kokokubaru, close to the capital, Kokujo. [Hamada Kosaku]
